When should I book in for my dress alterations?
Ideally as soon as you purchase your wedding dress! I get booked up quickly. The diary is open 1 year ahead and can only take on 3 or 4 new customers per week. Plus only 1 bespoke made to measure dress per month.

What days are fittings held?
Mon to Weds 9.30am to 6pm only. (I sew your dresses the other days of the week!)
Your slot is 45 mins to 1 hour long per slot.
If you have multiple items to alter or need bespoke items made eg sleeves, you will require to book an extended appointment slot.
-
When is best to have my first fitting?
It is recommended to have your first bridal dress fitting 8wks before your wedding date. Unless you wish to have bespoke customising pieces made then much more in advance. Your follow up appointment will be 4-6 wks later.

This fitting a prefit fitting is perfect for those seeking face to face expert advice to run through all your dress needs and wants well ahead of your wedding date. Two years ahead is amazing, but realistically One year in advance is usually fine for space too. A consultation is £20 for 1 hour. Booking can be made by using the Contact Form or email direct sarah.shepherd@yahoo.co.uk

How do I book my dress alterations work?
After our initial contact using the Contact Form regarding your dress (please check your spam folder for my reply), you may wish to go ahead. Fab stuff. I’ll then need to take your email address and mobile number to send you a booking receipt for our agreed date/time inc an emailed invoice for £35 which covers our 45min/1hr fitting inc your 30 min dress collection appointment. This will need to be paid the same day to secure your slot. No slots are held in reserve. Payment can be made online transfer using the link.

What should I bring to my fitting?
Your dress in a breatheable gown cover on a strong hanger, your bridal shoes, any support underwear inc bras, stick ons or inserts (I do stock foam padded and non padded cups to try on), a petticoat if wanting to wearing one with it. Limited extra bags please due to space.
-
Can I bring a guest with me to my fittings?
Yes most welcome to bring up to two guests with you. It’s quite helpful to have that kind friend that supports you through your wedding journey or the person who maybe helping you to get dressed on your wedding day. On your dress collection appointment I often offer your guest to have a run through and to use it as their practice session. It will give you extra piece of mind before the big day. Apologies no young minors as I require your full attention during the fittings and no delays. Your fitting appointment goes fairly quickly and there’s lots to get through. Please also only bring bottle water to your fitting if wish. No hot drinks or food allowed. Sadly there’s no public toilet here, so best to be prepared.

Where are you located and is there parking?
My business is run from a separate building on my home premises. There is a purpose built building for my business which is at the rear garden. I am located in Brislington, Bristol, BS4 area. Easily accessed off the A4 Bath Rd. There is generally always outside free street parking available.
-
How much are wedding dress alterations?
Each dress varies due to the needs it requires. Most require hems being raised, strap lifts and sides taken in. Plus a bustle button and loop to hitch up the train for evening look. These often vary from £200-400. If you require bespoke items being made and added eg sleeves this would cost around £150-200 more. Therefore its best to always put aside in your budget £400 for alterations and any remaining is a bonus.
-
Is your business insured?
Yes, it’s fully insured with business insurance and a registered business. Here at my studio your dress is in good care. But I know wedding insurance is a much more popular addition these days and it maybe still worthwhile.
-
I've bought my dress last minute, can I still book in alterations?
Hi, ideally in advance is always best as the diary only takes on 4 new dresses per week but I always say you don’t get if you don’t ask, so please do drop me a message to enquire if there’s any space to squeeze you in.
-
Do you alter non bridal items?
I alter only bridal wear items for the bride and her bridal party, inc her bridesmaids of any ages plus Mother of the bride or groom. These also need to be booked in advance along with the Brides. No general wear alterations such as jeans or curtains. The only months unusual requests alterations is potentially possible is in months Nov-Jan as it’s off peak season.
-
Can you steam my dress(es)?
Yes. Here I have a professional Propress steamer. Your dress is suspended from the studio apex ceiling on a pully system and every inch of your dress is steamed to become crease free. It’s highly recommended to budget for this for Satin and Crepe style dresses that crease more easily. Prices vary from £25 to £50 per dress. All dresses are steamed just before collection for optimum quality.
-

But you can hire me to attend your home or wedding venue to help you with all dress needs on the morning of your wedding inc last minute steaming. Cost is £20ph plus mileage or a package deal agreed.
